It was when I heard my partner’s 10 year daughter say “dad, just go to the machine and get some money” that I realized that most children have no understanding of money and financial concepts.  I’ve often wondered why our school curriculums don’t include classes on topics like: money, debt, budgets, insurance, credit cards, and investing.  No wonder the world today is in the financial shape that it is.  As parents, ourselves included, we find ourselves spending countless hours in hockey rinks, dance classrooms and all the other various extra-circular activities that our children participate in.  While we have no doubt that these activities broaden our children’s lives, why is it that we seem to neglect providing them with the basics of some of life’s most important tools.  We are sure your child can navigate a computer or get to level 10 on some video game but can he or she even tell you how much it cost and what it took for you to have the funds available to buy it?
